Harbor's New Animal Control Body

This is an animal control body by Harbor Truck Bodies. It is essentially a highly modified service body with various size compartments for different size animals, plenty of ventilation and temperature control, which is especially important in the heat of the sun during most of the year in Southern California where this unit is in use by the City of Fontana.

As you can see by the photographs, it has special doors, expanded metal and solid metal partitions, vented panels, through compartments for larger animals, interior lighting, special coolers and exhaust ventilators, strobe lights, all LED exterior lighting, and this also has a Tommy Gate 1,000 lb liftgate.

North Bay Custom Flatbed On 2004 Freightliner

Here's a custom 10' flatbed built and mounted on a 2004 Freightliner regular cab with an 84" CA recently built by North Bay Truck Body, Fairfield CA.

It starts as a standard 10' flatbed with apitong hardwood floor and a 1/8" diamond plate steel overlay. To that North Bay has added six removable 8" stake rack sections using 1/4"x8" steel flatbar, 2 underbed 56" long boxes, one on each side. An LED Wanco 36"x72" power 90 degree arrow board has been added and North Bay installed the customers Scorpion crash attenuator.

A Beautiful Red Service Body with Dump Insert and Special Options

Here's a North Bay Truck Body 9' Flatbed mounted on a 60" CA chassis. It has a tapered half and half headboard with a 1-1/8" Apitong hardwood floor, with 12" centers on the cross bars. The six stake rack sections are 12" high with two boards. The rack is a custom design with no longitudinals and the goals posts are made of 3"x2" metal and the rear is mounted off the rear of the flatbed to the step on the rear.

Customized 11' Service/Welder Body by North Bay Truck Body

Here's a recent job by North Bay Truck Body for Zumwalt Ford in St. Helena, CA. It is a Harbor Truck Bodies 11' Service Body with dual raised front compartments. Compartment depth on this model is 22" deep. This is also commonly called a Welder Body and in this case it is being used that way for the curbside front compartment is to hold Oxygen/Acetylene bottles. This body also features Harbor's famous standard stainless steel open top lids.

This body also features a unique 18" rear platform with 3/16" diamond plate steel floor and 2" V-trough, a receiver style vise bracket stand, 2"x2" HD NBTB Rack with two sets of Rack Straps. Further modifications to the 18" rear platform is 4-4" vertical channels with 5" bumper step with recessed rubber mounted stop, tail, turn and backup lights in the rear face. And finally, a receiver hitch and 6-way plug.

Custom Flatbed Dump By North Bay Truck Body

Here's a unit recently built by North Bay Truck Body that certainly looks interesting with the unusual rack assembly. Sort of looks like window panes going down the road. . . and it is also a dumping flatbed!

This is a HD flatbed with 3/16" HD formed steel sides and end rails with crossbars on 12" centers with additional cross member over rear wheel area with steel reinforcement. Headboard is 41" smooth steel and expanded metal with structural support as a rack with 6" ears to match rear goal post. The other two goal posts are made of 3"x2" steel.

This is also a dump body and has a Rugby HR520EDM class 20 hoist. There are seven combo binders, four on curbside with HD 3/4" rope hooks opposite, and three on roadside. Floor is 1-1/8" sub-floor with 10 gauge smooth steel overlay. A 48" underbed box rounds out the job.

Here's a great red truck for Suisun Fire Protection District built by Bob Dias and team at North Bay Truck Body in Fairfield CA. This is a 2011 Ford F-550 Regular Cab 4x4 Super Duty 60" CA chassis with a diesel motor.

The body is a ProTech 9' all aluminum flatbed with recessed LED clearance, stop, tail, turn and back-up lights. It includes a hitch and 10"x10" opening in the bed floor for later heavy trailer hitch. It also has two 36" underbed boxes, four topside 54" boxes, all diamond plate aluminum, special ProTech aluminum crossbox.

Custom 12' Flatbed Looks More Like A Service Body!

Here's a very interesting truck recently built by North Bay Truck Bodies in Fairfield CA. It has enough tool boxes to be a service or utility body, but is in reality a flatbed--indeed, a very useful flatbed.

This is a 12' x 8' flatbed with 60" underbed tool box mounted in front of the rear axle and 36" boxes in the rear. On the side with the welder compartment, a 24" box is substituted for the 60". The two topside boxes are closed-top and are approximately 88" x 24" high and 18" deep. There is space in front of the upper box for a welder, and there are two 50-gallon square liquid transfer tanks, one per side with top opening boxes mounted after. Each tank has a 12-volt Fillrite pump with auto shut-off nozzle and filter system.

The rack system has removable sections. The rear step bumper is 4" channel with a class IV receiver hitch. Notice how all the rope hooks have been set and the channel they are mounted in. Looks very clean and useful at the same time.

The oxygen/acetylene locker on the curbside front is cut into the bed. The locker is 63" high x 19" deep and is 32" wide with double doors and bottle bracket system and also includes a reinforced floor. Note that the bottom of the locker is level with adjoining tool box. All of this mounted on a Ford F-550 regular cab chassis.

Here's a small liftgate job recently done by North Bay Truck Body. This is a 2010 Pronter 2500 Series with the hi-roof and we installed an Interlift model Mini Fix Liftgate with 1,100 lbs capacity and a large aluminum extruded platform size of 62" x 55". We also added two rows of E-Track on each side inside the van.

Animal Control Service Body

North Bay Truck Body in Fairfield, CA recently delivered a new Animal Control Body by Arrow Truck Bodies for the City of Vallejo through Downtown Ford of Sacramento. This is the Arrow model ACB 9857-79 with 22" deep compartments and overall width of 79". It is made of a mixture of electro-galvanized and 304 stainless steel materials with the stainless steel used inside the compartments. In addition, this unit has 12 compartment interior lights, a power exhaust ventilator in the isolation compartment and an aluminum pull out ramp. It is also equipped with LED stop, tail and return lights and includes a Whelen Traffic Advisor light bar.

This photo brought back some memories. About a year after I started my first commercial truck operation in Santa Rosa, CA, I wanted a flatbed that we could sort of use as a branding tool. I called it the "premium flatbed." The one in the photo above was built by Bob Dias at North Bay Truck Body in Cordelia, CA and he helped me write the specs for the body. I had all the body companies I dealt with build one to those specs and then we sold a serious number of them over the years.

The general specs were tapered headboard with mesh screen, tapered Forklift loadable, bolted-on, not welded on rack, hitch and wiring, short contractor style gates around the bed, cross members on 12" centers, painted black gloss, tie down hooks under rail, etc. We even went so far as to weld in short pipe sections into the rack for the pins to mount the crossbars so that no water could get into the rack tubing.

In this case, the unit has a Rugby dump hoist with subframe. The vast majority of the premium flatbeds we sold were non-dumping. This particular unit was built for my second commercial truck operation at Woodard Chevrolet in Fairfield, CA and was mounted on the 15,000 GVWR 3500HD. A sweet combination.

It's Mating Season With The Flatbed & Service Body

This must be where a flatbed and a service body become one! What an interesting custom unit this is! It was built by Bob Dias and team at North Bay Truck Body in Cordelia, CA.

Here's what I find interesting about this:

It has great, large top bed boxes with fold-down lids that can double as a work area when needed.
It has a full compliment of underbed boxes for additional storage.
Look at the tall compartment on the curbside front. Great for gas bottles for welders, or lots of shelves for storage. Either way, it is a great cabinet that extends way down . . .
Check out that massive bumper step. It looks like it must be about 18". Largest I've seen.
Nice big space for the huge welder machine, or massive generator, or whatever else suits your fancy.
This baby comes with fuel tanks on both sides on top of the bed.
Check out the custom removable rack. Looks like it can double for goal posts to kick for an extra point. It's a long. . . long. . . way between posts, so make sure it is sturdy.
Notice the rear fuel fill.

What a great truck. Bob just loves doing custom jobs and I just love looking at them. Cleared For Landing On A Body Near You

Building truck bodies can be very interesting. For example, it is not every day that you get to build a "helicopter body." Notice the extra length, the specialized support structure, and the special posts to hold on to the rotor blade. Notice also, it is mounted on a cutaway chassis. Keeps it low to the ground and tighter turning radius, I'm sure. Now, that's a picture going down the road! It's not every day the public gets to watch a helicopter go by on a truck. Kind of looks like it could just take off any time.

Custom Multi-Tasker for City of Fairfield CA

This is a very interesting truck. I have seen them all over the City of Fairfield and got to see one up close at a recent event. It's fun trying to guess what is what on some of these units.

The rear section is a dump body with short little gates all around. It is great for small jobs around the city. The box behind the cab has a good sized drawer to access cargo installed there and I think the design of this is just excellent--so do the workers driving them. That box is mounted on a stationary section of the bed. There is a generator mounted on top of the box and is quite helpful on certain jobs. Then, there is an underbed box on both sides.

The unit also has a tapered rack and though this is a flatbed, the typical headboard is not necessary because the box acts as a stop along with two posts. I also think that this is a super combination mounted on a super cab F350 dual rear wheel 60" CA chassis.

All in all this is one sweet truck that was designed and built by North Bay Truck Body in Cordelia CA. My hat's off to Bob Dias, president of North Bay. I've admired this truck for some time. Great job!

Another Custom Flatbed By North Bay Truck Body!

Here's another unique custom flatbed manufactured by North Bay Truck Body. This one is built on a Ford F550 chassis sold by Ron DuPratt Ford in Dixon, CA. The bed includes a 12' flatbed with crossbars on 12" centers and 1-1/8" Apitong hardwood flooring for 10' of the 12' length, with the remaining 2' covered with 1/8" diamond plate steel. It also sports a 3"x2" HD material rack with no long bars and includes Rack Straps with special lights for night work. Strobe lights are attached to the front section of the material rack.

The tall boxes at the front of the body are made by Protech and are 36"x18"x64" and are mounted by cutting away part of the flatbed. The roadside box has two adjustable shelves and the curbside box has a permanent shelf and a drawer section with 6-3" aluminum pull-out drawers. Two Protech underbed boxes measuring 18"x18"x18" add additional storage. There is a custom jackhammer box at the rear end of the box right of the bumper and step with lockable access door. Customer's vises and pipe vise are installed on the rear platform.

CDX Automotive Announces New Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Curriculum

June 21, 2010, Sudbury, MA—CDX Automotive, a division of Jones & Bartlett Learning, has entered into a partnership with MAVCC, a Multistate Curriculum Consortium. MAVCC is a leading provider of career and technical curriculum materials designed to train a high-performance workforce.

In the first of a series of collaborations, CDX and MAVCC are developing and releasing a complete teaching and learning system for medium/heavy vehicle truck technicians designed to meet the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) program certification standards. Based on MAVCC’s trusted Diesel Technology Series, this comprehensive teaching and learning system will consist of online modules, student guides, student workbooks, and Teacher Edition CD-ROMs.

“This partnership represents our complete commitment to automotive training and education. Using the award winning CDX “Know, See, Do Prove” instructional model, our goal is to provide the most relevant automotive education in the marketplace,” said Tim Spurlock, CDX Vice President of Business Development. “With CDX, we know we have a system that works, and our partnership with MAVCC expands our combined reach dramatically. Nice North Bay Custom Flatbed Unique To Irish Construction

North Bay Truck Body in Cordelia, CA recently delivered one of many units for Irish Construction to the selling dealer, Paul Brown of Larry Geweke Ford in Yuba City, CA. The client has specific needs in their flatbed fleet and Bob Dias at North Bay Truck Body was happy to work with Irish Construction to fulfill their needs. Based on what I saw in this truck, it is a sweet rig and well designed.

The tool boxes were made by Harbor Truck Bodies and it is an open top box on one side and a closed top box on the other. The stainless steel lid is unmistakable Harbor. The bed even has jack hammer tube holders, and a long list of other "little" features. Considering they do a lot of underground work, that is one of the main tools of their trade.

I see these trucks all over northern California and now Bob Dias will have a chance to show off some of his fine work with Irish Construction. Bob specializes in custom flatbeds, and you can see more of his creations at their website.

SuperStructure Service Body Used By City of Fairfield, CA

This truck belongs to the City of Fairfield, CA and is a 9' Service Body with a roof, often called a SuperStructure Body.

Here's why it is so interesting:

It is full stand up height (over 75")
It has a horizontal series design on both sides. This is where the horizontal compartment is extended to the rear of the truck and a smaller compartment below. This is very useful for certain tools and equipment and is typically a no charge option with body companies, but to get it, you have to ask for it.
It has a slightly raised front compartment on both sides. This is very interesting with the superstructure and is the first I've ever seen quite this way.
It has a liftgate with the bumper ends for a clean installation.
It has LED lights.
It's a 9' unit which is short and this kind of rig is more common in an 11' model.
It is mounted on a Ford F450 V10 Gas, so they must be expecting to carry seriously heavy items.
There's a step mounted in the trailer receiver.

F550 Chassis Conversion to Pickup Makes HD Work Truck

This is a body company conversion of an F550 Crew Cab Chassis into a HD Towing Machine by North Bay Truck Body. Pickup bed was secured, painted to match and mounted on this chassis. Because the customer claims to be very hard on his beds, the underside of the factory pickup box was reinforced underneath at all eight mounting points and a smooth steel layer added in the bed as shown in the photos underneath the Line-X Spray-In Liner.

A well designed cab protector and headache rack was mounted ahead of the body to fill the space because it was a 60"CA chassis. Class IV factory receiver was reworked slightly to be reused in this application. HD 25,000 lb. capacity gooseneck hitch system was installed the the bed. A spare tire mount was mounted on steetside at front of bed and mounted solidly!

Welder Low Pro Service Body Makes Interesting Combination

Here is a welder body produced by us at North Bay Truck Body. It starts with a 60" CA Super Cab Ford F-350 chassis, then we add a low pro closed top Harbor service body. What makes it so interesting is the low pro and the closed top body is a unique combination. Notice you can see the whole rear window. The closed top means that many things (compressors, generators, you name it) can be mounted on top of the body.

Along with the custom rack, this unit also has a Miller Blue Star 185 welder, a fuel tank at the bulkhead, 2 vise brackets at the rear, a wheel chock holder and much more.

What I like about this is the color! It's not white. I also love the super cab chassis, the matching body color. It has 36" gates, so the top is only a couple of inches above the cab. It has a built in tarp system and that is a great option.

BBQ Smoker Trailer Is Awesome Addition To North Bay Truck Body

Introducing the New BBQ Smoker Trailer designed and crafted by Jason Denney our Chief Fabricator.

The main horizontal cylindrical cooking chamber is 3/8” thick wall, 20” W x 48” L with two 1” angle frame meat racks with expanded metal cooking surface. Heat deflectors to minimize hot spots. The single door is framed in ¼” x 1” flatbar for tight heat seal, counterbalance for EZ operation.
The firebox is 20” x 20” x 20” x ¼” formed steel, adjustable air intake vent, fixed baffle between firebox and horizontal smoker for heat control. Fruit and nut hardwood logs are best for this off set style BBQ smoker.
The upright slow-smoker and hanging chamber is 20” x 20” x 20” x ¼” formed steel plate. Three 1” angle frame pull-out meat racks, 6” pipe, adjustable smoke stack and stainless steel china cap topper, 2” brass ball valve grease drain.
Two stainless steel 3” dial thermometer, stainless cool touch handles on all doors, stainless steel front work table, full length rear storage rack. Heavy duty brass pin piano hinge on all doors for no rust operation.
Trailer, 4” channel with a 3,500 lb axle with electric brakes and LED light kit. 2” Bulldog coupler and tongue jack with steel caster. The gross weight is 1,900 lbs.
Not only tows well, but cooks well.

10' Contractor Body with Tall Boxes On Crew Cab

Here's a great 10' Contractor Body with some twists. First it has tall boxes with vertical doors and shelving as the top box mounted next to the headboard on both sides. This is a great box that will carry a lot of stuff in varying sizes. Next, it is mounted to a square standard headboard instead of the typical tapered headboard and this is due to the tall box. Then, we have some bling going on with the shiny diamond treadplate fastened to the side and back of the top boxes.

Behind the boxes are the specially painted gates. The posts and wood gates are painted white to match the flatbed. Notice the nice receiver buildup and the wide enough bumper to step up on to grab something on the bed. Looks great too. The forklift loadable rack is body width so you can carry some wide items up there easily. Then see the underbed boxes mounted slightly under the bed to make full use of every one of those great tie-downs. The expanded metal headboard allows easy visibility of the bed area from the cab.

What's really great about this body is it has so much bed area to make use of. Because the upper bed boxes are taller, they take up less bed area, yet at the same time, hold more cargo. What a great combination!

Custom Flatbed Just For Hot Air Balloon Company

This is a custom flatbed made for Napa Valley Balloons, a hot air balloon company in the Napa Valley. It is custom made to fit their equipment and to transport the balloon and gondola back to the point of origination.

The bed is 14' x 8' with HD rails and diamond plate floor over a 1-1/8" sub floor. Special railing and tie off points, plus bottle retention devices are also needed along with special tubular guides for the basket. This unit has a 48" underbed toolbox. Included is also a 2,000 lb. Tommy Gate Railgate with a large platform. North Bay has also included LED lighting from American Superlight, including back-up LED's.

Here's another example of the beautiful ProTech Aluminum Flatbed with aluminum gates, aluminum underbed boxes and a hitch. Notice the detail in the headboard where the corner is angled. This body just looks so great on this Ford chassis from Zumwalt Ford in St Helena, CA in the Napa Valley.

New Animal Control Body

North Bay Truck Body in Fairfield, CA recently delivered a new Animal Control Body by Arrow Truck Bodies for the City of Vallejo through Downtown Ford of Sacramento. This is the Arrow model ACB 9857-79 with 22" deep compartments and overall width of 79". It is made of a mixture of electro-galvanized and 304 stainless steel materials with the stainless steel used inside the compartments. In addition, this unit has 12 compartment interior lights, a power exhaust ventilator in the isolation compartment and an aluminum pull out ramp. It is also equipped with LED stop, tail and return lights and includes a Whelen Traffic Advisor light bar.

Serious Work Needs a Serious Rack

When you're doing serious work (even in a seriously nice truck. . .), you need heavy duty components and great protection. North Bay Truck Body of Fairfield, CA built this seriously heavy duty forklift loadable rack for this sweet pickup and it also has an X-treme spray bed liner, including under the rails. Notice the additional mount braces in the corners for the rack. The rack is made of 2"x3" material.

CTEC 16' Combo Body & Venturo Crane

This is a long puppy! It's a rare sighting of a 16' Combo Body (a service body with a 36" rear platform--in this case, a 13' service body plus the 3' work platform) manufactured by CTEC (California Truck Equipment Company) of Downey, CA. In addition, it has a Venturo ET6KX 2,000 lb. Crane (now the ET8KX has replaced the ET6KX). Notice on the rear there are two trailer plugs for maximum flexibility. There is also a custom cab shield and a custom one side rack. All of this mounted on a GM 4500/5500 Crew Cab.

Many times you would see a Combo Body with short gates around the rear platform and this one has been left gateless to make it easier to work from. This is the best advantage of the Combo Body: the rear work platform which is 3' long and 8' wide, so it is a very nice HD steel work bench. You can attach vises and other gear, hook up a chop saw and cut material, lay out work and much more. It is also at a great height to work from, so all of this makes the Combo Body an excellent choice. All of the features of a service body with the bonus of the work platform. Combo Bodies are available in single rear wheel models or dual rear from 9' to as long as you want it.
